Daytrip suggestions

Morning,  afternoon or evening
Use the buoys of  the St.Aubins bay course card at high water to give you a feel for sailing a cruiser-racer in local conditions, or take a more leisurely cruise across the bay to a sheltered anchorage for lunch or tea and drift back to the harbour at sunset

Half  Tide
Maitresse Ile, the largest of the Minquiers and the most Southerly point in the British Isles is just in range for a half tide trip. When the tides are right this is a good lunch-time destination and you will have time to explore the small houses on the Island.

Coastal
The best day trip on a falling tide from St.Helier. Leave just before half tide down and return just after half tide up. Explore the bays of Jersey's South coast from Elizabeth Castle to Corbiere.

Full Tide
A Sark daytrip is within range. Leave to round Corbiere with the outgoing tide, sweep past Groznez on the North West tip of Jersey and on to  Sark for lunch and some exploration, and then return to the harbour with the incoming tide.

Overnight suggestions

Chausey, France

Leave St.Helier on an afternoon  low water  to anchor  for an evening meal at the Chausey's Hotel du Fort, night stop on the boat and return the following morning. Shortest "foreign" trip.

Carteret, France
Carteret has a friendly marina and many good restaurants. This is where Jersey boats go in Summer. Avoid the week-end crush  if possible but otherwise a pleasant destination with some interesting tidal calculations both there and back.

Trebeurden, France
A mini-cruise to satisfy the RYA Yachtmaster requirement for  60 mile passages some of which are done as skipper and by night. Trebeurden marina is  ideally situated to offer a comfortable respite between two such passages which you plan as skipper.

All Islands
Visit all the Channel Islands. This is possible with a midweek charter (thus qualifying for a midweek discount). The Islands are very different in character. Three of the four night stops will be spent at anchor. Pure cruising.

Daytrip

Daytrip charters can be for up to seven people in the charter group, but it is easier to move about the boat with five or six.

Overnight

Overnight charters may be restricted to four or five in the charter group depending the make-up of the group and the itinerary.

On an  accompanied charter your Yachtmaster or  Coastal Skipper may leave the boat  overnight to offer privacy to the charter group when in a secure marina.

Tidal considerations

Charters around the Channel Islands are heavily influenced by tidal conditions.

Many marinas, including both the large St.Helier marinas, have sills which only permit access above half tide.  Timings can be important.

There are relatively few secure anchorages which allow easy access to the shore at all states of the tide.
